Paris 8 University and Université Sorbonne Nouvelle are pleased to announce that the workshop/symposium Methods and Tools in L2 Phonology-Phonetics Interactions will take place in Paris at the SFL lab (CNRS & Paris 8), on September 4 and 5, 2025.
This workshop is organized by a research group whose main field is the acquisition of phonetics and phonology in foreign and second languages (L2). This thematic group was set up within the GIS RéAL2 (Réseau en Acquisition de Langues Secondes: https://real.cnrs.fr/gt-phonologie) in 2023, with the aim of creating synergies between various researchers in L2 phonetics/phonology in France and abroad.
OBJECTIVES & SPEAKERS
The workshop will feature two experts in the field of L2 phonology acquisition:
- Pilar Prieto, Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Spain)
- Christoph Gabriel, Johanes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (Germany)
It will also include 4 practical methodological workshops on different topics:
- Florence Baills, Universidad de Lleida (Spain), multimodality and L2 phonology
- Naomi Yamaguchi, Université Sorbonne Nouvelle (France), phonological annotation using PHON
- Brigitte Bigi, CNRS - Université Aix-Marseille (France), automatic speech processing using SPPAS
- To be confirmed
Finally, a call for papers for poster sessions will enable participants to disseminate their research work in this field and foster synergies to initiate new collaborations.
This workshop will help to decompartmentalize different theoretical approaches in the light of methodological and scientific aspects, whatever the theoretical approach adopted in the acquisition of L2 phonology may be.
Both French and English will be used during the workshop.
